I just ordered a stainless R9S this morning! Should be able to pick it up by the end of the week. Can't wait!
I'll post a range report after this weekend.
-
Congrats, I just got mine yesterday. I have not shot it yet, but just picked up some gold dots and Golden Sabers. Does anyone have experience with the Sabers out there.

WOW! A member since 5/23/04. Although I wasn't a member at that time, a belated welcome and congrats on ordering the R9. You'll be proud!

Yeah, I was a very early member here. I closely followed the development of the Rohrbaugh, but my financial situation was not great at that time.
I can't believe it's been so long, but I finally decided to buy the Rohrbaugh I was never able to get back then, and retire my Kel-Tec PF-9.
-
Glad you will soon be an owner. Do enjoy!
-
Good luck with your PUP. That was a fast turn around on your order.
-
Congratulations on ordering the pup.
With that many years of reading the forum you probably wont have a lot of questions. ;D

No, I haven't been reading the forum this whole time, so I'm sure I'll have questions.
Speaking of questions... why does everyone call them pups? :-[ ???
-
RSCarry, one of the moderators of this Forum, coined that name in the early days of the Forum and it has stuck ever since.

I do. Until last year I was loading 147-grain Golden Sabers in my R9 but dropped down to 124-grain loads for compatibility with my HK P7, which often serves as my primary. (The P7's gas retarded recoil system was designed around the NATO 115/124 grain loads and can be thrown off by a heavier bullet.)
My impression is that most of the members of this Forum favor Speer Gold Dots or Winchester Silver Tips, and I have supplies of those on hand as well. I personally just prefer the Golden Sabers. Reasonable minds will differ.

Here is the post where RSCarry named the R9 the pup; about half way down the page.

Thanks RS, sorry to get off topic. Congrats again to OP. I think he will like it. I can't stop admiring mine.
-
Thanks for the comments. I plan to use 115 gr Gold Dots in my "pup". :)
-
Gold Dots are a good choice and usually pretty easy to come by. First and foremost whatever the pup likes and you can shoot well. :D

gbelleh,
Congratulations on the new pup, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

gbelleh. Congrats, for sure, on the R9.
-
Congratulations on the new pup gbelleh. I know it was a banner day not so long ago when my new pup first took residence in my back pocket.
So many things now to look forward to - the first range session, the first sore strong hand (jk - it wasn't that bad at all), the first cleaning, the first reassembly. Well - maybe everything but the first reassembly ... :D
-
Disassembly & Reassembly are a breeze with the R.J. tool. ;D

Yeah, I disassembled it today too. I actually made myself a tool out of a bent paperclip. It works great!
I didn't have any trouble getting the pin in or out (using a q-tip stick as a punch), but that recoil spring reassembly is quite troublesome without a tool. :o

Well, my pup didn't do as well as I hoped today. :(
Two malfunctions in 75 rounds. One was a FTE where the next round tried to feed on top of the empty case still in the chamber. Ammo was Winchester White Box 115gr. Next was a failure to return to battery with a Golden Saber 124 gr. This one was also very difficult to clear. The slide wouldn't close, and the slide was very difficult to open and clear the round.
These malfunctions were especially troubling because of the difficulty in clearing them.
I'm hoping these were ammo or break-in related problems. Both jams happened in the first 50 rounds, and the pistol seemed to loosen up quite a bit during this session. I had no more malfunctions with either ammo. So, I'll be giving it another chance soon.
I can't seem to find any non+p 115 gr hollow points anywhere around here. All I could find were the 124 gr. Golden Sabers. This R9 still has a while to go before it can be trusted for carry. Hopefully I can test it again very soon and find some ammo that it likes.

I bought some Gold Dot 115gr standard pressure ammo from
http://www.ammunitiontogo.com - they are still showing it in stock. I also bought some from a Rohrbaugh dealer who had ammo but no R9s - but I knew I'd be getting one so I held onto the ammo.
Mine likes the Gold Dots - I had no problems with them.
-
Thanks for the link. I was just about to go online shopping for some Gold Dots.
-
After a disappointing first range session, I finally got to shoot the R9 again today. 50 rounds of 115 gr Gold Dots with no malfunctions. It seems to really like the Gold Dots.
-
gbelleh. Good to hear the Gold Dots are working out for ya. Great range report. Thanks.
-
I am glad to hear your R9 is up and running the way it should.
I cannot speak highly enough about Gold Dots.
All three of my pups work flawlessly with them.
Let us know how your next range session goes!
