Would you guys carry a potentially "rare" R9?

Have one of those first pups in damn near mint condiditon and I am on the fence about carrying it for CC use. Carry P7M8 most of the time but sometimes its not desirable if I wish to wear shorts without belt and just drop the R9 in a pocket.

Some of you may remember the little booger..its the one purchased from Corey over a year ago..143 (no "R" prefix)

*I* probably wouldn't carry it.
I'd feel a lot more comfortable carrying something I could easily replace.
But, that's just me.

Post by: sdlsaginaw on September 23, 2009, 03:04:34 PM: I think if it's in mint condition it would be a pity to risk it. It's not going to get in better condition carrying it, so it can only go downhill from where it is.

IMHO, you have it for one of two conflicting reasons: (A) You have it as a collectors item which should become more valuable with time, or (B) you have it as a carry gun which will experience wear/scratches and become less valuable over time.

If you really want (A), you have to avoid carying it and losing value. OTOH, if you really want (B) you should sell it at a profit (back to Corey?) and pick up one for carry. If you want (A) and (B), grab your checkbook.... :-)

If it is duplicate, carry it as a backup to the other R9 when you are not carrying the P7.

It would be carried about 10% of the time......

and it would be in a cargo pocket more than likely with nothing else in the pocket.....(scratch potential to a minimum)

Not saying that this is my "decision", just giving more "info"....

I would probably sell it though if it would bring as much as one of those "SF" jobs!!!! Holy cow! :o

After buying a lot of collector grade stuff over the years, I woke and said to self, "SELF", what the hell are you doing? All of these weapons in here you feel guilty about shooting! What good is that only to see them get peddled off in some estate sale after I am gone! Shoot'em I say! So I got rid of a lot of things and kept some of the collector/shooter types.

And being that this one is already used and not new and unfired, carry it and treat it with TLC.

Excuse me Corey,but I think that I need to get in line here someplace!! ;)

As far as carrying the early gray anodized pup,I could not bring myself to carry it.But I had other pups to carry..

BTW,that pup had the nicest blues that I have seen.. 8)

Well I guess there will be two idiots out there carrying the "grey frames" then....! How many of those were there? Were the first batch up too 147 grey?

Thanks for all the input guys. I will probably only carry it when in "uppety dress mode" for dress shirts "print" to bad when carrying a P7M8. Speaking of that, which is kind of related, I bought a factory nickel M8 from a guy locally about a year ago that didn't have its box or papers...Sooo...guess what...carry that rarity as well!.....only 200 P7M8s in that config.

Just hope no one ever causes me to "shoot the stupid" out of them while carrying one of these.

I just noticed your "poll." My recommendation is to carry your "classic" R9 No. 143. I've been carrying No. 132 practically every day since May 2004. It shows no signs of wear other than what might be called "a slight patina of use." The most recent photo I have of it was taken last May and shows it with the OD aluminum grips it usually wears. I carry it in the right front pocket. I have a seamstress deepen that pocket on every pair of pants/slacks/BDUs I buy, and I carry nothing in the pocket but the holstered pistol. That still permits me to carry a primary weapon when wanted (usually my P7, belted or IWB at the "4:00 o'clock" position).
