Took my first range trip today. A few notes follow, I'd like to hear feedback, especially on the ammo issues. I also changed to the Hogue grips, they're nice and even though I was warned that the spring might come loose, I was surprised when it attacked my face. That little dude didn't really want to go back in either.
Anyway, here's what I shot:
1) WWB 124g - 24 rounds, no problem
2) Federal 124g - 50 rounds, no problem
3) Speer GD 124g - 24 rounds, no problem
4) Remington Golden Sabre 124g - 18 rounds, 3 FTF
5) Hornaday CD 115g - 18 rounds, 4 FTF
Even on the spent shells of those that fired, I noticed the pin indentation isn't deep. Obviously this wasn't a problem on most rounds, but the latter two concerned me.
BTW - my hand is sore already, but it has less kick than I was expecting actually.

The one that surprised me was the FTF of Critical Defense but you have to stay with that which works. I would lean toward GDs for carry and WWB for range but that is just an opinion.

Henry. The trigger spring can be a problem for sure when removing the grips. As for the ammo, some R9s' can be finiky about their diet. You have three brands that gave you good results. I would stick to whatever serves your R9 the best. As for me, Winchester Silvertips, as I've said many times before, works, so I try nothing else; but that's just me. I have a good supply on hand and no more than I shoot, I'll never run out.
Now I do shoot other caliber guns quite often from .22 to .454 and a .500 S&W awaiting.

Henry:
If you listed the various rounds in the order fired and the FTFs occurred toward the end of the range session, my theory would be that some "dreck" (perhaps a minute shard of brass from a spent casing) lodged in the firing pin area and impeded its operation. A good clean and lube, giving particular attention to the firing pin hole, might well solve the problem.
Good luck!

Good point, but no, not in order...just good to bad :)
I thought the same thing, but it looks like some rounds just didn't test well. I was mildly concerned about the striker pin not hitting firmly enough due to the small indents on the casings, but that obviously didn't impact 3 of the 5.

I don't doubt that your hand is a bit sore after 134 rounds and all but 24 of them "premium grade" Ouch! :)
Thanks for the excellent range report. I've had 100% reliable results with Speer Gold Dot and WWB. Therefore, as others have stated, I plan to simply stay with those two "proven" cartridges.
BTW, let me also add my welcome to the forum. Post often.

as for the light ? strike-dent. Make sure the firing pin is clean and not oiled. I have a NAA guardian and gave me light strike and the firing pin was oil and causes a shock absorbing affect and slow the pin travel speed especially as the pin gets dirty it gets worst. Try clean the pin and no oil at all.

good range report, go with the ones that had no problems, one for carry and one for range practice. Tom
