been shooting my friends r9. now it looks i will buy it for the better half. marked r9 but has sights. runs fine on my mild 115 grain handload. the 147 target load kickes alittle more. have not yet run a carry load in it. every thing going well but the mag catch release could use ruffing up. hard to make it work as slick as it is. seems very well made. groups well too. later awd51

Welcome to the forum. May your experience be rewarding.

thanks

And a welcome from me as well. To borrow from Hallmarks's slogan, giving an R9 to your "better half" is an excellent choice when you want to send the very best.

Welcome to the forum. Recommend 147 grain Golden Sabre as a carry load.
-
welcome, you're on your way, enjoy. Tom

the 124 gold dot or the 147 saber will be the carry load. i lean to the 147 for the problem is dogs. her 380 colt spare mag and good ammo is fine for people. i want her to have more for the dogs. last one i had to shoot i was running with a j frame smith, good ammo put 4 rds into the dog. did not get hurt but did not put dog down. took 1.5 weeks before he went and if owner had taken him to vet he would have made it. this is only while walking we carry 1911 in 45 as we go about the day. she is small and i cannot grt her to carry that much while out walking. i went to a p45 and belly band when i run. will break it in and then see how fast and accurate the carry ammo is. i do have some put away cannot buy any now. just not in the stores. later

awd51,
Welcome to the forum. Excellent choice on the R-9 for the Mrs. CC. It sounds like it will be just the ticket for her.
It also sounds like you folks walk / jog in some pretty wild country. :o
Regards, Quiet1

They must be some big dogs like Mastiffs or something similar.

live outside of greensboro,nc normal setting. anyone who walks/bikes/runs uses pepper spray when dogs get after you. last few years noticed drug people like to have several so called bad dogs pit bulls and rots mainly. i do like dogs. in fact i would like to deal with the owners and then retrain the dogs. the last one i shot was a 75lb rot. had turned them in for 2 years and still i had to deal with it. i would say our area is like most. thats why i and better half train and carry.

Were are you outside Gboro? I live in Denton about 40min from Gboro.

The last one you shot? I think I might try to find a nice fenced
high school running track somewhere. It sounds like that touch
with nature has its share of aggravation.

I was shocked at your post until you qualified it by advising the situation where you live. I love dogs and could not imagine shooting one.
I am a native of northern NJ, 14 miles west of NYC. I am all too aware of druggies with dogs exhibiting bad behavior, encouraged by their owners.
NJ has a quaint process for people who carry guns and shoot dogs:
Step 1: You are put in jail for carrying a gun
Step 2: Aggravated charges are assessed because you shot an animal
Step 3: The dog owner is elevated to hero status and is elected to congress

Lets' call the Dog Whisperer.

I don't think so. Cesar goes for "calm submissive" and druggies are intent upon cultivating vicious dogs.
-
If I shot some druggies dogs I would scale up the armament
considerably from a .45.

Awh! Lets' still call Cesar. Awd didn't say all the dogs he encountered were druggie owned.

the town is called pleasant garden. i love dogs. i will say the investagation is just like if you shot someone. it is use of deadly force. so i carry pepper spray and use command voice alot more than a fire arm. but we also have a rabbies problem. so the firearm is just another tool in the tool box. denton is not far at all. the local ranges i shoot at are pha and task. maybe see you at a match.

Rabies is very serious business. If that were so, I would follow tracker's advice. How about .338 Lapua Magnum?
