I read on a post where the guy replaced the "spring" on his R9 after firing 250 rounds. Why would he do this? Is this required maintenance?
-
Although I cannot say for sure what the recommended round count is, YES. The manufacturer suggests changing the recoil spring after a cetain amount of rounds. The spring takes quite a beating and has some impressive forces to overcome, therefore it needs to be replaced every so often. I hear people complaining about this, but the fact is: Oh Well, it needs to be done. You spend 1,100 on a pistol and complain about having to buy a 5.00 spring...? I am NOT saying this is your intent, and am NOT saying that I have seen on the forums... I've read it elsewhere. The shooter must understand that owning such a firearm, both the shooter and his Rohrbaugh are going to require certain demands and responsibilities to keep it functioning correctly. I hope this helps, and if I am wrong by any account- someone be sure to correct me. I am not, nor do I claim to be an expert!! :):)

Thanks Stonebender for the info. I don't have my R9 yet :'( (it's on order), so don't know what the factory suggests. Whatever it takes though, I intend to follow their recommendations.
-
It's worth it, I'm sure to follow the instructions. You're one step ahead of me... I'm still in the " How can I pay for it" stage.... :D Congrats!

The current recommendation from Rohrbaugh's Dissassembley and Lubrication Brochure is 200 rds. This Brochure will come with your new R9. This is cheap insurance and worth it as mentioned above by Stonebender. :) :)

You can also look at the instructions on the Rohrbaugh Firearms. com web site. Just click on Downloads, then click on the Dissassembly and Lubrications Brochure, then click on page 2. That will tell you what you need to know. :) ;)

Thanks guys! I'll be happy to change that spring when recommended; all I need now is the R9 to show up! It's like waiting for Christmas when I was a youngster! ;D

Isn't that the truth ;D

I remember waiting 5-6 months four years ago.

Did you order the R9 from an authorized dealer? The guy you order the gun from matters more than you may realize.

explain, how does it matter?

Assistance in model selection, order submission with appropriate accessories (springs/screws/etc.), delivery time, condition upon receipt, issue resolution, "technical support", price...
-
This is what I meant: There are dealers who receive preferential treatment over others because of relationship with the factory.
When I ordered my first R9, in 2005, the dealer never received the gun and I got my Farmingdale R9 via the courtesy of a forum member who sold me a spare.
I hope for the buyer's sake that I am wrong but I would never order an R9 without first consulting Tom Watson, (The Irish Guard). If you ordered the gun through Tom, rest easily as you are in very good hands.

I agree!! You need all the above. :) :)
-
In addition to all of the above Tom has been with Rohrbaugh
since day one as a dealer and his relationship with the factory
and Karl, Eric, and Maria cannot be equaled by just any dealer.
This personal relationship is so important because the players and
principles do not change like a large manufacturer. If you ever
need some influence or counsel Tom is the " go-to-guy."
Customer service is the name of the game and fortunately the
factory is very responsive to the few amount of issues that will
happen on anything with moving parts.

When I had my NJ gun dealer order my first R9, in 2005, I was very frustrated and confused. Over time, I recognized that Rohrbaugh, in fact, was using a page out of my own playbook.
I spent a career as a professional buyer and graduated from assistant buyer to Senior Contract Negotiator the old fashioned (pre-obama) way - I earned it.
In contemporary business practice companies realize that they cannot be all things to all people and they create "strategic partnerships" with their vendors/dealers. This describes the relationship that Tom Watson enjoys with the factory and I am calling Tom, (ten times out of ten), for all things Rohrbaugh.
-
Wish I could add to that, but it seems the subject has been well covered.
-
Funny how the new member who started this string has not responded as to where he ordered the R9. Hope we did not scare him off.
-
He's probably waiting until he gets his R9! :) :)
-
Good luck if he did not order from a "preferred dealer" like Tom Watson. I could be wrong and certainly do not want to offend Rohrbaugh. I have made my point regarding this matter above.
-
Believe so! :) :)
-
Haven't responded since I've been out of town for a few weeks. Yes, I did order my R9 through Tom Watson, as suggested by forum members in another thread.
-
Excellent!! :) :)
-
Good choice. Let us know, upon receipt, your impressions and range experience.

Remember to shoot the good stuff as evidenced on other threads!!
-
Yeah, and don't forget 147 grain bullets.
-
Afirmative!
-
Yes, please buy the 147 gr. so that will leave more of the
115 gr. and 124 gr. for the rest of us.

I ended getting mine with my local dealer, Wayne Hanson.

He is an authorized dealer and quite honestly he helped me in ways that no other dealer was either willing or able to. I got information from him that no one was telling me about and I didn't see on the forum here. I don't need to toot his horn but is was nice going to see him and he had every model for my inspection; standard, stealth, stealth elite, special forces, and Robar, while others were telling me a two month wait. His price was fair and I would hope as a authorized dealer Rohrbaugh would treat me right no matter what. While I was at his house he called Eric Rohrbaugh direct with concerns and questions I had. I ended up purchasing the stealth and have not shot it yet but I am currently impressed with the gun so far.

Fat Boy
Nice story and good luck with the gun. It is refreshing to find out that there are "franchised" dealers out there that show similar concern to what many of us look to the Irish Guard to provide.
tracker: tell me where you are hiding the 115 and 124 grain ammo and I will give it a try. Again, the 147 grain is the ONLY stuff I have found and the heavier bullet has magic, in my view, for reasons already posted.

Well, congratulations on getting the Stealth. Enjoy the experience. :) :)
-
THANKS! No regrets but I am really wanting to get a couple of things personalized to my flavor and start doing a little shooting with it......already doing a lot of carry.
-
Same here; "carry much and shoot little", just like factory recommends. You will find that the R9 is not the gun you want to shoot a lot of rounds through anyway.
This is a good thing, given prevailing ammo shortage.
