Post by: rjklein on March 25, 2009, 02:00:21 AM
does anybody think the first third of the trigger pull is a little rough?

Not on No. 132. It's as smooth as glass.   8)

Although the trigger pull is smooth, for me the trigger travel seems to be a bit lengthly prior to release. Any pros or cons on this subject? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Relative to some other guns I agree with you, but after awhile it
grows on you. I will take long and smooth over rough and short
any day. I returned a Sig Mosquito to the seller because the trigger
was like extra coarse sandpaper.

Speaking only for myself, I prefer a lengthy trigger pull (smooth, of course) on a DAO pocket pistol without a manual safety. The lengthy trigger pull becomes the safety -- combined with a good holster covering the trigger and that "stuff" between the ears.

Whoever it was that gave me the advice "pull it like you mean it, it's not a target pistol!" was spot-on.

My first couple of times out I lined up my shot and pulled the trigger slow.  A few shots later I was flinching from the perceived recoil, hitting who-knows-where, and generally not enjoying the experience.

My last trip to the range I took their advice.  I lined up and just squeezed off the shot.  What a difference!  If it weren't for the price and scarcity of ammo I would have gone through alot more rounds than I did.  True I was all over the paper, but at least I was ON the paper.   :)

I am jumping on the bandwagon as to great trigger pull. I have never experienced a bad R9 trigger pull in the four I have owned.

I also enjoy stacking. The best acuracy I have enjoyed is when I stack the gun; pull the trigger to the threshold of when it breaks, prior to shot, while focusing on sight alignment.

While I realize stacking is not a very good realtime pursuit with the R9, I still enjoy it occasionally.

With my R9 Stealth (no sights) stacking has less meaning and I pull it until it says Bang.

Sounds like most have great trigger pulls.  I can add that the ones I have owned have been very smooth all the way through the pull.  I have sold/traded off four of them but still have these ( :'(why ol why did I sell of my Farmingdales? :'() .

Beautiful shot! (I don't know whether to call that "four of a kind" or "two pair."   ;) )

We sell our Farmingdales because we are fallible and {therefore} capable of making stupid decisions. I know I did.

Great photograph. The caption for me is "Get a Rohrbaugh R9; They Really Stack Up"

Out of the ones I still have it would have to be my 1st custom.  It's just plain cool to me and I have by far the most money tied up in it.

Out of all of them i've had today I would choose the earliest farmingdale one I had would take the prize.  Wished I still had that one!!

Mine is absolutely smooth.  The long pull feels safer to me.  You really have to mean to pull it.

First Post on here, so hello!
I was handling a "Special Forces" model yesterday and when I pulled the trigger slowly, dry fire, it stuck in the back position several times.  Is this normal?

Welcome Fat Boy to the forum. What you describe is NOT normal and I will defer to others who may have insight as to the problem.

I would love to see a DA R9 with all the normal bells and whistles: Conventional slide that remains open after last shot, frame mounted mag release, et al. but that is not happening.

Welcome to the forum.  To answer your question, that's definitely not normal.   Pulling the trigger slowly is not good to start with.  Should be pulled like you really mean to shoot it.
Did you try to pull the trigger quickly?

Welcome to the Forum.

That R9 must have been drier than a James Bond martini.

Sounds to me like the grip is a little loose maybe.

I concur, sounds like the trigger spring isn't on its post anymore.  Either the right grip is loose or someone has removed it and didn't get the spring reinstalled properly upon reassembly.

Were you snorting Renaissance Wax prior to that trigger pull?

Thanks for the responses.  I did pull the trigger normal and it worked fine but  if I pulled it slowly to observe the feel of the trigger it would stick.  It is a brand new, never shot SF that was at the local gun shop for sale and I was considering purchasing it till this happened and the dealer started talkin out of his a$$ about other issues.  I would assume this gun came in factory setup condition.  The owner of the shop owns an Elite and so maybe he messed around with it before he put it on the shelf.  When I pointed it out to him he just blew it off as no big deal.  I did not notice a loose grip but wasn't looking for one and could've  missed this.  The trigger definitely did not feel like it had any spring behind it and when I pulled it quickly it seemed to only go forward from momentum.  I've never held another Rohrbaugh so I have nothing to compare it to.  BTW if anyone would like to send their Rohrbaugh to me so I can make a comparison please send me a PM and I promise to return it after I am done spending some serious one on one time together. :)  I fully expect to purcahse one of these once I learn more so thanks for this forum and all the help.

Good luck on someone lending you their Rohrbaugh  for your comparison.  Most of us have bought an R9 sight unseen.  I had only seen pictures.  I am a happily satisfied owner wth no hiccups ever.

Fat Boy:

The dealer does not sound like someone I would want to do business with. I recommend you contact Tom Watson (The Irish Guard) who is a senior member of this forum, is knowledgeable about the R9 and has a great rapport with the Rohrbaugh factory. I trust Tom 100% to place in your hand an R9 for which you will take rightful pride of ownership.
