Title: A different perspective
Post by: kinoz on May 18, 2009, 12:13:03 PM
Went to a pistol class yesterday where we shot indoors at a target at 15 ft.  Of course I was the only one with a Rohrbaugh R9s.  In the beginning, the instructor called me the guy with the foreign gun.  When I told him New York, he said "that's foreign."

Anyway, we shot a total of 81 rounds into a paper plate.  I only had 2 rounds that were outside a 3" radius, with 10 of them being fired one-handed and 10 being one-handed weakside.

They ran out of superlatives.  They couldn't believe a "little" gun could be that accurate, and one guy said my groupings were like I was shooting a 6" 45.

Even though they repeatedly said the R9 could only be a second carry for them, they became believers in the R9's performance at the end of the day.

By the way, I was using American Eagle 115 and only had one failure to eject (it was the fourth to the last shot weakside and I was told I limped it).

Cool beans!  Sounds like there will be a few people looking for themselves a nice little R9 soon.

Welcome, Kinoz!  You did really good!  Were the American Eagles FMJ?

Welcome to the campfire! With a first post such as that (not to mention the shooting), you have definitely earned a seat up front.   8)

kjtrains:

Yes, they were American Eagle FMJ, although it wouldn't matter.  This baby eats everything.  My favorite round is the Hornady Critical Defense, which I will use for the colder months but currently have Silvertips loaded.

I've shot 244 rounds with no hiccups whatsoever since I got it from Tom.  I refuse to call it "pup" because it's several classes above that.  It's at least a "your majesty."

That's good to hear on the American Eagles and Hornadys.  I have on hand Silvertips, Gold Dots in 115 gr and 124 gr, and Hornady Critical Defense; have a backorder in for Golden Sabres 147 gr.  The Silvertips have worked without a blip, so thought I wouldl stick with what works.   Good to hear of the success other brands.   :)    :)

I'm glad yours likes the Hornady rounds.  Mine hates them, per my posting under Range Reports I had 5 failures to fire in 20 rounds.  I also I had what I believe were primer fragments from them which prevented me from working the slide at one point.

I have a letter I'm drafting to the factory, looking to get their feedback.

I wish they did email, or at least took part occasionally in the forum.  Maybe it's a legal thing for them.

The factory was too overwhelmed with e-mail, and frankly--Karl isn't the most computer-savvy guy.  ;)  He doesn't have much use for e-mail.

They are available, of course, by phone during business hours.  You can call up there and sometimes get Karl or Eric on the phone.  I best Gaston doesn't answer the phone...  ;D

Factory reps do read the forum, but do not participate for legal reasons.
