Title: To buy the elite or not?
Post by: rohrbaugh_girl on April 28, 2009, 11:12:42 PM
Hello All,
This is my first time post. I am Coalman's girlfriend. I have wanted the rohrbaugh for well over a year, and last month he bought me the R9 stealth, although I really wanted the original two-tone, but we decided after nearly weekly trips to the local gun shops we would have to settle for what they had. Then when the local gun shop called and said they had new rohraughs in stock. We rushed right over and he bought me the two-tone, (All my guns are two-toned except my J-frame) and he said he would keep the used R9 stealth. I offered to go in on buying him the elite. Then we would have one of each. He is concerned about the poor quality engraving on the 2 elites in the store, but I think we should get them while they are available. Plus I would like to repay the generosity. What do you think?

You could get them both, I like the 2 tone personally, one thing for sure once you decide which one you do not want, you won't have any problem selling it.

Girlfriend:

Refer to string initiated by coalman "Wowed at the range".

First, you meant to say "Deer Park", rather than "Deerfield". Second, the consecutive S/Ns would enhance value.

A photograph of the gun(s) would give objective basis for the forum to judge your concern as to the Elites in question. As to your generosity, that would be a good thing.

rohrbaugh_girl!  Welcome to the Forum.  I would be concerned about the poor quality engraving, but that's just me.  Pictures would help to judge just how poor the engraving might be.  The Elite is supposed to be Elite.  Again, just my thoughts!

Thanks for the comments about the elite. It is hard to upload a photo because we don't own it and would look sort of weird taking pics at the gun shop. Does anyone else have pics of the elite engraving "Deer Park"? Also I am looking for a good Inside the waistband holster for my new R9, any suggestions? I don't like the uncle mike's because they collapse, difficult to re-holster, although they do seem to be pretty gentle on the finish compared to some of the other holsters on the market.

When all else fails tell the truth. If your FFL is reasonable, advise him of your concern, ask permission to take the photographs of the engraving on the Elites and advise him of your intention of posting the pictures on the forum to get feedback from your peers.

Tell him your concern and do so in a manner that conveys fact finding rather than judgement.

He has a profit incentive and you have a value motive. If you approach him in an assertive & non-threatening manner, he will allow you this procedure. If he does not, you have your answer and walk away.

Mrsfos has been very well pleased with her IWB from Meco.

If you like what you see you can get info on Meco holsters at http://www.mecopocketholsters.com/

Robert makes great stuff.  I have quite a few holsters he has made and have been very happy with his service.

So what happened? You received responses you requested as to taking pictures of the Elites and recommended holsters.

I have welcomed your friend Coalman to the Forum on a previous thread and I am pleased now to welcome you here as well. The two of you seem to have a good thing going there. I wish you all the bestl. One thing is certain -- you both certainly do have excellent taste in handguns.   8)

R-Girl,

Always a pleasure to welcome a lady.  I looked at the Elite pretty hard before getting a Stealth.  When I realized I could likely make as nice or nicer Elite by a careful removal of a little coating on the slide and such if I really wanted that look, I decided to pass, but I was quite tempted by the Robar R9 which is a very special two-tone.

Aesthetics are such a pleasure and I wish you well in finding what pleases.   ;D

rohrbaugh_girl, Welcome from Texas as well. Sounds like you guys are pup rich.  Am I reading this right?  you both now have Stealths and then you got a 2 tone. And are looking at getting Elites??  If Elites are what you both would like to have, I would suggest "ordering" 2 of them with consecutive numbers. This could be done with special attention to detail on the slides. I would be happy to assist y'all in doing this.  Tom

Hello all. Sorry to keep you all waiting, we've been working until 2:00 in the morning most nights this week. Well today after a week or so of my nagging I talked Coalman into going back to the gun shop, "just to look" I said. We bought the elite for Coalman and I am so excited. Now we have one of each. I have the original two-tone and Coalman has the stealth and the new elite. We decided the engraving was something we could live with. Any way I feel like I am quite a lucky lady, 3 new rohrbaughs and great guy to share them with. Thanks to all for the advice and comments.

R_G:

Did you get the consecutive serial numbers you discussed earlier in this string? That will enhance future value and provide an incentive for you and coalman to stay together.

Thanks to all for the helpful posts. We did not get consecutive serial numbers, we think we've "blown our wad" on guns these last few months. As for the added incentive to stay together, I think it is our real life pups (doberman and setter), that would be the hardest to split, although our firearm collection has been growing these last few years. The rohrbaugh isn't the only handgun we have in a his and hers. Its nice to know you are comfortable with the other's gun when we are both carrying. Lastly, Pics? I can't figure out how to upload them. Can anyone help?

My ex-wife (a great Irish girl) did not like guns and no, that is not why we divorced. I have to admit a romantic relationship that involves "his and hers" guns, whether R9 or other guns, is intriguing and I enjoy your story.

Hi R_G,
And welcome!! I do like my IWB by Robert Meco very much. It's lined and has great retention.

You can't beat the quality. He uses a high grade leather, hand bones, hand sews (if you ask for it  like that).

He will customize your order too.  You can't go wrong with one of his holsters!

Lastly, Pics? I can't figure out how to upload them. Can anyone help?

You need to store them online - I use photobucket.com.  It is a free service and it doesn't bog down users with popup ads.

After you have them loaded there you can copy/paste the url into the text box.

1. open photobucket.com -- copy your the URL for a picture you've stored there.

2. open the message board text box

3. click the "insert imagine icon" (http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/YaBBImages/img.gif) on the top of the dialogue box

4. you will see the code inserted automatically into the text box: [ img ][ /img ] (without the spaces included)

5. [ img ] insert URL HERE[ /img ]-- insert (paste) the URL to your picture between the set of image codes

6. Preview your post to make sure it displays as you've expected it to.

7.  POST!!
