Title: Report from the SHOT Show 2009
Post by: DDGator on January 16, 2009, 06:37:35 PM
News from the SHOT Show!

Rohrbaugh Firearms (at Booth 428) displayed a lot of new items this year.

Two new versions of the R-9:

Robar Rohrbaugh R-9– a dressed-up R-9 with frame slide and barrel coated in a silver NP3 by Robar, the new Hogue Executive G-10 grips with checkering, and high polish (by the in-house jeweler) on extractor, ejector, hammer, trigger, grip screws, and magazine base.  This is one good looking piece!  MSRP $1,795.

Special Forces R-9– Hogue Executive G-10 grips with checkering, titanium coated barrel, and all visible parts (interior and exterior of gun) are finished in black with Wilson Combat’s proprietary ArmorTuff finish.  Even the magazines are black!  Very neat looking gun.  Even when you open the slide and peer down the ejection port – everything is black!  MSRP $1,795.

The Hogue Executive G-10 grips will be also be available separately, either checkered ($69.95) or smooth ($54.00).

Rohrbaugh also unveiled a new knife collaboration with Kershaw/Ken Onion for a Rohrbaugh-branded Leek.  Available in stainless or black DLC coating, with plain or partially serrated blades for $69.95 to $84.95.  These are equipped with the SpeedSafe assisted opening hardware.

The anticipated Corbon DPX ammo was also at the show.  These rounds were developed by Corbon specifically for the R-9 and R-380.  The 9mm is an 80 grain DPX solid copper hollow point at standard pressure, clocking in at 1300 fps.  The .380 uses the same bullet and develops 1050 fps.  The ammo comes in boxes of 20 and is $28.60 for .380 and $34.65 for 9mm.

Finally, there is a line of new Rohrbaugh-branded watches.  High quality, waterproof, and worthy of the Rohrbaugh name.  Prices vary.

Pictures will be forthcoming soon, but my USB cable got left behind, so it will have to wait until Sunday at least.  Sorry!

I am happy to say the booth was very crowded.  Interest in these guns remains very high.  A few more days to go, but it looks like this will be another great show for the R-Brothers!

I have been thinking about a Rohrbaugh knife, does it look like a good quality knife?  Which one would you recommend?
Thanks for the report.

Sorry for the delay on the pics...  :(   Tonight, I hope.

The Rohrbaugh knife is a Kershaw Leek -- which is a very nice quality knife.  The Speed-Safe assisted opening is very cool too!  I liked the look of the black model best.

The Robar R-9 shown is actually Eric's own gun on display at the show.  My photos do not do this pistol justice.  You can't really appreciate the detail of the polished surfaces and the contrast that is created.

Thank you, Duane, for the fine report and photographs. Those new R9 models are stunning!

In response to Dino's post, I purchased one of the new Ken Onion designed "Leek" folders early last month as what might be called a Christmas present to myself. Its quality is excellent (not to mention its great looks), and it has become a part of my EDC package.

Here's wishing "Team Rohrbaugh" a most successful SHOT 2009!

Duane-

Thanks for the photos.

Could you explain in your words the Robar R9 finish?  IS the frame and the slide in the exact same finish.  The last photo the you enclosed makes it look like the frame and the slide are different.

I really like the Elite but would want to get your opinion, or other photos if you have them, of the Robar model.

Thanks again.

Thanks Duane, I just ordered my DLC coated smooth edge leek knife from Maria along with springs and screws.  I told her to pay you commission.
While I have your ear, can you point me to the right topic on how to download pics?  I couldn' t find it in the help section.
Thanks again.

Dan:

Thank you, Sir. It was from Chris and his FAQ sheet that I learned that trick some years ago.

By the way, this is my first post from Critter Creek. I finally figured out how to get a high-speed internet connection up here in the mountains. (The "wilderness" won't be the same.)

Despite the way the photo may appear, I assure you that when viewed in person, the slide and frame appear to be the same color.  The Robar finish can be hard to photograph and the conditions at the SHOT Show were far from ideal!

Richard, Since Critter Creek is now connected you should be able to spend more time there.  This sat. we put up a dish at my house in the mountains so I too feel somewhat connected. No internet yet.  Dan

So when are we gonna see the stainless framed version and the return of the carbon fiber grips? All I see is different finishes and different G-10 grips on the same gun, and knives.. not really interested in knives.
