really bummed, first experience was horrible-i have the 9s and it jammed several times with different types of ammo, the extractor looks like it is chipped, the trigger wont work after cleaning, and the extra screws i bot from the company, don't fit the gun as they are too short. We have many many pistols and never had so many problems...oh and to top it off the grip screw stripped out. I guess going back to gun store tommorrow. very very disappointed.
-
Wow, Zee; what a bummer. This being your first time out
with it why were you jacking with the grip screws? I still
haven't removed my grips after two + years.
-
Zee, was this a BRAND new gun? If not, the recoil spring may be bad. A chipped extractor makes me think that it's been shot before. I'd be shocked if a new one broke off that quick unless you shoot Brown Bear or Wolf stuff; then all bets are off.
If I'm not mistaken, the trigger not working after taking grips off means you've somehow messed up the drawback spring. It's either broken or just needs to be put back on properly.
-
Hang in there Bro- My first experience was lass than perfect. Don't sweat the little stuff 8)
-
What Tracker said.
-
Let's see...........where to start. ???
What type of ammo did you use?
Why did you think you needed to buy additional grip screws before even shooting the pistol?
Why would you put enough force on something that evidently wasn't right to strip it? I imagine attempting to put the grips back on, too....
Please excuse me but it sounds like you're in over your head....good luck. ::)
-
I agree that all this sounds a bit strange... Your experience is certainly not representative of what we see on this board.
Never heard of grip screws being too short. Some ammo related malfunctions can occur depending upon a lot of factors -- the ammo used, how many rounds were fired on the springs in the gun, the grip technique used, etc.
You haven't really provided enough information for us to help you. If you bought the gun new, and your dealer can't help you, call the factory. If you bought it used, you need to deal with the dealer you got it from.
For now I will assume that you are a legit new member and not a troll. When someone shows up with a first post bashing the gun with incomplete and somewhat non-sensical information, I start to wonder... I'll keep watching.
Thanks.
-
I guess this couldn't have been too big of deal as Zee hasn't posted again. I'm starting to think troll myself. I hope not; but you never know now days.
My first experience was quite good. I had 2 times the trigger didn't return and one failure to feed (at the end of over 75 rounds I may add). I think the grip screws were loose and that's what I attributed the trigger not returning to. I torqued them heavily, but I cannot see how one would strip them unless he or she has no mechanical skills or used the wrong size hex/Allen wrench.

Given the syntax, spelling, and general composition, all coupled with a completely barren profile . . . . ::)

wow....sorry guys..i have to work too...anyways the ammo was the recommeded spear gold dot 124 and winchester white box 115..both good ammo. we went to dealer and he recommended trying the winchester silver tip 115 and the
remmington 124 golden saber..so we will try those. in answer to the screws, we always buy spare parts when we buy a new pistol to have on hand. on answering the experience thing, i am 59 and been shooting since i was 20 or so and own many pistols of all types froms sig to high end so that is not a problem.. onlys hot 150 rounds and will now try changing the spring and the ammo recommeded...i will post an update. i do appreciate the help and please no insults i am one of you...and not a troll. thank you all
-
Thank you, Zee.
-
Hang in there Zee. it is always darkest before dawn.

You keep refering to, "we", who's we? ???
-
That's good to hear, Zee. Keep us informed. It's a helpful group around here, even if we do tend to become rather proprietary about our "pups."
-
Apologies Zee!!
150 rounds...when did it start malfunctioning? Immediately or after 50 or so?
I shot Federal HST 124g, no problems. 124g Gold Dot...no problems. WWB...no problems.
And...buying spare parts...SMART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish HK sold spares.... :(.
-
I feel bad about believing you were a troll.

No hard feelings, Zee. Keep in mind that when someone new joins a forum and drops in with a post like that -- negative in tone, lacking details, etc. -- we tend to get our guard up.
I am still not sure exactly what your problems are, but with adequate details here I am sure we can help you, and the factory will help you too if you purchased new.
Don't worry -- you didn't make a mistake buying an R-9. There are too many very happy owners out here.
Thanks.

hi guys back again. lets see...ok "we" is my husband which i know is a little unusual but we like going shooting together and we each shoot different guns each time we go. The jamming started right away...and wow its so little and with no device to hold back the slide (whatever that thingamajig is called) it takes three hands to get it out. I guess the husband really is handy for that part. I am being positive and hoping all works out in the end. We were told Rohrbaugh's was on vacation all week so we will call next Monday and fax them a letter. We check all new guns before we fire them and checked the screws before we fired the 150 rounds and i will tell you to be careful as the screws do loosen up on the little pup...they are very very small.. Does anyone know who makes them. Thank you again.
-
Ooook, Zee; keep those cards and letters coming--they are
quite refreshing and thanks for answering our questions. The
screws just require light torquing after several usages to keep
them tight--they have not been a major issue if not taken
to an extreme.
-
Zee:
And now it's time for me to make a formal apology for my erroneous assumptions based on your first post. I hereby apologize.
As for the grip screws on the R9, they are indeed small and need to be monitored and treated with some care -- and light torquing, as Tracker notes. In that regard, this link may be helpful:
http://www.acbsystems.com/boards/rohrbaugh/basefile/gripscrews.htm
The other FAQ pages shown at the link may answer additional questions you have. If not, let us know.
Finally, as I have not previously done so, I hereby welcome you and your husband to the unofficial Forum for what I consider to be the finest pocket pistol yet produced. I have owned my R9 for over four years now, it is my EDC, and it has shown no vices.
-
Welcome to the forum!!
I wish you better luck with your next outing!!
I too have not had a problem with my pups.. ;)
Read around on the forum, you will find a lot of info..
Once again,Welcome..

zee, next Monday when you call Rohrbaugh you'll talk with Maria, she'll be a big help to you. Tom
-
Sorry for any misunderstandings on my part, just kind of a 'different' first post.... :-[
I'm sure everything will get ironed out and you will really enjoy having what, IMHO, is the finest pocket pistol on the market.
Mine has been flawless since I put the very first round though it and it's too bad that you are having troubles with yours.
Please keep us posted as to the outcome.
-
thank you all, and i will call maria as per your suggestion. i noticed when i racked the slide back tonight that the barrel moves up and down and seems to be really loose..in the end i think after i talk to them it probably will go back to Rohrbaugh.
i cannot wait to have it work properly because i can tell just from all your posts that it is a great firearm...i am disappointed, but also excited about having it work great when it gets fixed. I know it sounds crazy but can't wait for my pup to be well. You all are really helpful and i love your site.
-
update- we sent the pup back next day air ups ..you were right rohrbaugh said send it back they will go over the entire pisol for us..we did not have to explain anything, just sent a copy of our letter.
-
With the Rohrbaugh brothers' excellent customer service, I think you will soon be a happy camper.
Welcome aboard.
