Hi,
I have been visiting here for quite a while, say four or five months,
reading and learning as much as i can about these
pistols.
I've always wanted a true pocket pistol. The Rohrbaugh
being chambered in the potent 9mm round is what caught
my interest, the high quality of workmanship and in such
a small frame.
I'm getting a new R9s stealth. Hopefully it has the new
mag springs. I'll be picking it up tomorrow afternoon from
my FFL dealer. ;D
Is this anodize coating? Is it durable?
I will be taking it apart for cleaning and lubing before
a try out.
Will be reporting back, praying and hoping for a positive
outcome. ::)
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum! I hope you are as satisfied with your new R9 as I have been with mine for the past three years.
-
This is one gun that you really do not need to clean and lube before you shoot it. Per Karl Rohrbaugh, its ready to go right out of the box. I am sure that you wil be very happy with your new pup. The quality does shine through. Enjoy.
-
Congratulation and Good luck with you new Pup!
For a Flawless first outing with your new friend be sure to feed it the poroper diet of Gold Dots... 115 gr work the best IMO.
Oh, did I mention to use Gold Dots?
Later,
Mark
PS- Gold Dots! ;)

Congrats, The R9 is the absolute best full power concealible pocket auto available.
-
Welcom to the forum Pistolnut and I am sure your going to love the new Pup. Mine is Man's best friend and I don't go any where without it.
I have all kinds of guns in the safe and in this hot weather all I find my self carrying is my R9S Stealth in a Desantis Nemisis pocket holster. You don't even know you have it.

Hi,
Range report.
First let me say that I tried to get standard speer gold dots
115 gr. or 124 gr. hp and couldn't find any.
The only thing that I could find was remington
124 gr. hp and a few Win. silver tip that I had laying around.
Shot a total of 60 rounds without any failures at all. :D
At 7 yards about a 3 to 4 inch group. At 15 yards I hit
every shot on the chest of a humanoid target. I guess
not bad for the first time with this MINI CANON.
What a Gem of a pistol. I'm a happy camper. ;D
Ordered and received nemesis pocket holster
4 recoil springs and a set of grip screws from Rohrbaugh.
Found out with Maria that my R9s came with the new
magazine springs.
I know It can't be done because of the warranty issue.
But what this pistol deserves is a NP3 coating.
Rohrbaugh should offer this. It would make it last longer,
better protection, No slide gulling at all, and light lubrication, among other things ::)
Well I think this is enough for now.

Great report...
No matter which pup it is!! 8)

Great report, indeed! My R9 also seems to like the Remington 147 grain Golden Sabers as well as the 115 and 124 grain Speer Gold Dots. For practice sessions, it will run through Winchester "White Box" hardballs as long as my right hand can do its part.
Continued good luck with your "pup."

welcome to the forum, enjoy your new pup. You don't have to clean before you shoot it. Tom

pistolnut,
I am happy to hear that your R9 is behaveing.
As far as the coating you mentioned. I do not know what it is but due to the what appears to be fairly heavy gualing of the aluminum frame with most of the R9's I have heard about I don't think their is a coating in the world that would prevent this. The only thing that I think might prevent the very common gualing issue is a steel frame for the R9.

Riffraff,
I have a few friends that have had this coating process
performed on their colt 45 auto, p7's and other pistols
and have put thousands of rounds through them, had it done
6, 7 up to 9 years ago and the guns look great.
Check out these sites.

gunshopinc.com
robarguns.com
Hopefully after reading some of this information you will
get a clear idea of what I'm refering to.
Let me know what you think.

In looking at the listed sites, I do not see any explicit indication that coating of an aluminum alloy (eg. the P9 frame) material is permissible. There is mention that "scandium" cannot be coated, and I would interpret this to mean that an aluminum scandium alloy cannot be coated.
Perhaps I should interpret that if the slide is NP3 coated that it would then not gall the interfacing surface of the aluminum alloy?
-
pbwe,
Just so you know. What is called Scandium in the gun industry is really a scandium and aluminum alloy. They do not use 100% scandium in anything that I am aware of.

pbwe,
If you go to Robar, go to the FAQ section and there
it specifies to what metals NP3 can be applied.
It can be applied to aluminum and stainless steel.
Also go to kaneohegs.com, once there, go to
equipment test and evaluation, scroll down to
Robar coatings technologies NP3, they show a
Sig P226 with NP3 with detail explanations and
pictures. ;)
Like I mentioned before I have a few buddy's who have
done this to some of their guns.
I also happen to order an AR 15 upper and lower with
NP3 coating coming next week and those parts are
made from 7075 T6 aircraft aluminum. ;D
-
pbwe,
Clarification:
If you go to kaneohegs.com go to NEWS then go
to Equipment Test and Evaluation.

Thanks for the information. My current interest would be to refinish a beater Makarov, which is conveniently all steel. If I refinished a rohrbaugh, it would likely be the slide only, and see if the one side treatment would reduce galling of the aluminum frame material.
From Roguard: http://www.robarguns.com/q_and_a.htm
What metals can NP3 and Roguard be applied to?
NP3 and Roguard will adhere to aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. We cannot apply finishes to Titanium, Scandium or 'pot metal'. Previously plated surfaces like nickel, hard chrome or anodizing must be stripped prior to plating.

Hi,
Another outing with my R9s.
Shot it with those speer gold dots, 60 rounds.
No problems at all and all casings had the indentation
on it from the firing pin.
I'm going to stick with those gold dots, but man
over here in Orlando I can't get them. One place only
and I bought all four boxes, I only have one box left.
They are very expensive too.
Very happy I got the R9s. ;D

pistolnut, welcome and good range report. Try buying GD on line like at ammoman.com Tom

Thanks for the info on the ammo.
I'll try those winchester 115gr FMJ from wal mart.
I'm going to look for on line ammo also.
