Well - here we go - I am not over pleased really and hope to do much better with another attempt. Even this lot took way too much time!! Sorry not better.
Camera is old analog and frankly - it's time I got a better one and a dig' at that. AGC cuts in to a silly extent and auto exp not good either.
Oh well - let's see what feedback I get - remembering too I have tried not to make these too darned long and - quality of course unless monster files - cannot be that great. I'll say too - this is only ''my'' way of doing things and sure as heck - hardly definitive. Not sure if they'll help at all to be honest.
I have low res and higher res versions - take the higher res if your connection good enough. Right clcik on links and ''save as'' then view from your hard drive at your leisure.
Takedown, lower res, 1.4Mb (http://www.thingameez.com/vid-download/r9takedown-lr.wmv )
Takedown, higher res, 3.2Mb (http://www.thingameez.com/vid-download/r9takedown-hr.wmv )
Reassembly, lower res, 2.0 Mb (http://www.thingameez.com/vid-download/r9-reassemble-lr.wmv)
Reassembly, higher res 4.6Mb (http://www.thingameez.com/vid-download/r9-reassemble-hr.wmv)

Chris,
Great job with the videos! I went for the HiRes as I have a high speed connection. I especialy like the X-Files music on the re-assembly clip. I detect a slight British accent in your narrtive. I see you are now in PA. Where did you pickup the accent?
EdMan
-
Chris:
BRAVO!
EdMan is right about the accent. At first I thought I was listening to Pierce Brosnan. 8)
Great job!
-
Almost sounds like a South African accent to my untrained ear.
-
That was very good. I was amazed at how easy your pin went back in. I have to tap it back in as well as out. As for the accent I believe he said we would hear his "limey" accent, so I am assuming English.
-
Well, that was just wonderful, Chris.
Thank you for generously sharing the images at no cost.
You are the man, indeed!

As for feedback, I believe many viewers will not possess your level of hand strength, or the ability to control that strength.
Those unfortunate souls may have to use Channel Lock pliers to compress the spring, in order to insert the forward end of the spring assembly into the frame.
None of us wish to use metal tools against the inner parts, but Channel Lock pliers may be the only commonly available tool to get the job done. It is possible to find pliers made from plastic, as mentioned elsewhere on the forum.
Even without revision, your video is a great success.
My hat is off to you.
-
Thx guys for your gracious comments - tho I would like to do better. I think too maybe I should try later to do a version where hand strength is bypassed - channel lock pliers, maybe even make up the jig someone concocted. I am fortunate that (knocks on wood) despite most of my old body creaking and groaning, my hand strength is still very fair - at least for short term manouvers.
As for accent - to the uninitiated, while now an American citizen, I am an ''import'' - born English thru and thru - and at my age, heck - not gonna lose all that accent;D
I will hope tho to make another effort sometime.
-
Chris, Thank you, thank you, thank YOU!!! You really made my day with this video. After viewing them I saved them to my hard drive as you suggested as I can tell that I will be referencing them many times! Great job and I hope that you will soon be making alternative ones for those whose hand strength is diminished. Once again...Bravo!

Chris,
As I said before, you did a great job with your disassembly and reassembly Videos. I didn’t mean to criticize your (very slight) British accent. In fact I like it, and I think it adds an extra air of sophistication to an already great presentation. In fact in today’s trend to be politically correct I would be considered “British American” as my mother’s maiden name is Churchill, and my last name is of equally British origin.
I also do not use channel lock pliers to reassemble my R9s. I do it a little different than you demonstrate, but my technique is very similar to yours. Thanks again for sharing your videos with us. I’ve also saved them to my hard drive.

Ed - no criticism taken :)
As far as the old accent goes - as RJ might say - ''I yam what I yam" ! ;D
I have another small suggestion/tip which I have taken some pics to try and show - wasn't time to go into it within vid stuff, it would have stretched running time too much.
I will post new thread on it before very long once I have pics tweaked and anotated.
-
Chris,
I look forward to viewing your hard work VERY soon-I am in the process of downloading the low res vids..
D_ _ N dialup.. ;)
I am sure this will be a great help to fellow owners!! ;D
Thanks-and so quick!!! 8)
Brenden

Brenden - hope qual' adequate - as ever I try to squish things down to help dialup - which is indeed a PITA of first order - I did away with that but now pay a high price for my better connection.
My ''suggestion'' is now posted - on this new thread

Chris,
Well done! We realize you spent a lot of time on this and it will help many - it did me.
Thanks!
Dave

Chris,
Bravo!! ;D 8)
I think it was great!!
You did make it look easy..
You are able to deal with the recoil assembly unit much better than most..I see your heads up in the other thread, and that does' most likely help with it.. :)
I too use my fingers but it is a B----!!
I may look at the tool to help.. ;)
May I ask-what was the brass tool that you used to "pop" the pin back in?
I know this is adding more to your work, but could you show the lubrication "regimen" as an "inbetween" video?? ;) 8)
It would be a great help to many I suspect..And it would cover questions that arise on that front.. ;)
I do have to admit, that I think I heard that first sound track on a movie that I accidently tuned into, on a channel that I accidently saw,for a brief moment,on a hotel room TV.. :o ::) ;D
Brenden
-
Brenden - thx for comments.
The brass tool - is actually just a piece of brazing rod, slightly smaller in dia than pin - once pin is in all but the last stage - that brass ''thingie'' lets me shove and ''snick'' it the last bit! It started as a piece about 6" long - and I double bent the bulk of it to a sorta ''key'' handle shape. Helps me have something to press on - dead simple - I can take a pic if you wish.
''Lube regimen''? Well yeah I guess we could - just an expansion really of the stills on the FAQ site - worth thinking about. I'll see what I can come up with.
The sound track on takedown vid was ''Bladerunner'' - the Harrison Ford sorta ''cult'' movie - unusual piece but quite haunting. The X-Files of course anyone would recognize LOL!
-
Chris,
Thanks..For all the work and time..Much appreciation on this end for sure!! ;D 8)
I feel good if I can post a simple pic!! :o
Thanks for the idea on the brazing rod..Every once in awhile I run into a bit of a prob there..
It does' get easier every time I have found..
You have made it easier for many owners, and future owners!! 8)
I do understand about the lube clip-repeat-but sometimes people understand it a bit more if they "view" it instead of "see" it.. ;)
I have to see Bladerunner again..It has been years since I have seen it..Pretty wild for the "time"..
Thanks again..

Thx again Brenden - I think what I will try is probably little more than expand on the pics - but with commentary and of course applying goo while so doing ;D
I hope when i get pics from TW we can have something more to view too if it all comes together as I imagine it could.
-
I have to jump in here and tell you how great both clips are. I too was memorized at the naration, you sound very professional.
You sure did make the whole process look easy, and first shot with the recoil spring.
I cleaned mine the other night, I don't use tools on the recoil spring, but I had a little problem, it took a whole minute for me.
I think I used the chop stick on the reassembly also.
Cool video, you're a great guy. Keep the accent, you sound cool.
I'm watching Alain de Cadenet on SPEED channel right now. Love the way he talks. The way he says JAGUAUR.
Take care, and thanks.
-
FANTASTIC work, Chris -- as usual.
You make it look easy -- which shows how many times you have done it. Thanks for this!
-
Chris, thanks from Texas on the great videos. This really helps!
When asked your name do you say Bond James Bond or just say Chris. ;D
changing of the guard?! ???
Tom
-
Tom - just ''Chris'' to my friends.
''James Bond'' to my enemies LOL! ;D
-
Chris,
I did think of one more possible subject for your wonderful video.
Some of us (you know who) might not have been confident about where to put the Channel Lock pliers on the spring assembly.
If there is only one of us in the world, then I guess it does not matter. :D
Bill
-
Bill - I have received pics from TW - which show Eric doing various things re takedown, lube etc. I am hoping when time to assemble these into a slide show of some sort. Maybe a vid, tho could perhaps do a Powerpoint deal - tho not sure if everyone has that or a viewer.
One pic shows channel locks very well in use.
I'll try and get to this over next few days.
-
Chris, I would be concerned about only a few folks having Powerpoint.
I have Office, but never got Powerpoint.
Everybody is looking ahead to seeing the revision about maintenance. Thanks to you and TW for thinking about the forum members.
-
I have thought on that more Bill and am sure you are right.
Spoke with TW earlier and I think I will endevor to put together a vid - well 2 probably. I have to go thru the pics, make up sequences and then decide on commentary etc - may take a while but hopefully we'll have something to show before too long.
I will tho be checking with TW once something is put together - to make sure I am using the pics to best advanatage, before ''releasing'' to everyone.
