Haven't seen any "comparison" photos posted in a while, so here are some new ones ...

... I may have posted some of them before but am including them again for completeness.

Great photos, Fudster. (There's just something about a Walther PPK which always appeals to me.)
-
Very nice, Fudster.
I also like the looks of the Walther. It brings up images of mystery and intrigue.
I'll have to hold one during the next visit to the gun store.

When I got in my first order of R9s, I sold my PPK stnls.
I don't need it anymore, and got a better trigger.

Great photo's------- they will be viewed and referred to many times..

Fully loaded with 7 rounds of 147gr 9mm JHP the R9S is lighter than the Tomcat with 8 rounds of 71gr .32ACP JHP.

Great pics of the R9 compared to a few popular guns.
The "new" PPK looks hot, but up next to the R9, why bother?
The R9 walks all over the PPK, but that PPK still looks hot.
-
Fudster/chuck - Thanks for the pictures - after a long day where my wife had foot surgery (doing fine), and a long township committee meeting, I needed something pleasant - it made my night - I always enjoy seeing pictures of the R9 in different setting and against other guns.

I wouldn't mind a PPK in 9mm. With guns like the Rohrbaugh and the Kahr's, the only way to keep interest in the PPK is to re-chamber it in a 9mm.
-
Fudster, could you imagine if S&W introduced a PPK in 9X19?
Wow! Matched sets. They'd sell like crazy.
I'd say they are content with their current sales of the PPK and with the new longer rear tang, that problem with the snake bite is now a thing of the past. Let's hope the longer tang doesn't make the PPK to uncomfortable to carry for those that now own the new version.
No doubt, PPK still a classic.
-
Wheres all the Pocket Nines? Great pics, I too sold my PPK/S after the R9S'es. :D

I agree completely. The R9 has eclipsed the PPK. But there is still someting about a PPK -- a mystique, perhaps -- which I always find appealing. I carried one as a BUG when I was stationed in Germany 42 years ago. Whenever I view or hold a PPK, I think of München, Nürnberg, and Berlin . . . I think of crossing through Checkpoint Charley in Class A uniform to fly the flag in the face of the Stasi . . . I think of dimly lit cobblestone streets, of border fences looming up in the fog, of searchlights sweeping over "no-man's land," and of the sound of Russian voices on the headquarters scanner after midnight.
Life was simpler back then. We could identify our enemies, and we knew where they were.
Still and all, I now carry the R9, not the PPK. 8)
-
The PPK now has a longer rear tang? Hmm....that was always my problem w. the old one -- well, that, and it weighed a couple tons..why do they keep making new guns to buy... ;D
-
My gunstore had a new Walther yesterday, without the S&W stuff on it. I'll have to check if it has a longer tang.
I picked up a new Bersa .380 brushed nickel which looks somewhat similar, is said to be very reliable, and only costs $250. However, it lacks the mystique and quality.
-
Alan - haven't had time to check on my FAQ re comparison pics but any objection if one or two of those ''fill some gaps''??
As others mention comparison pics are great - mostly cos they help show just how darned small the pup really is!
Bill - My wife now has sorta ''appropriated'' my Bersa duo-tone and also started of the wife of some friends with one too for her carry.
IMO they are excellent smaller semi's - good for ladies to handle and even if ''only'' .380 I reckon that with practice and so ability for good shot placement, they are worth considering.
On GunBroker they are $219 and in fact our friend got hers from my local guy for exact same - plus sales tax tho of course.
-
Chris,
The Bersa appears to be an excellent choice for someone just getting started.
I absolutely did not need one, but everywhere I turned, some writer was saying it was an undiscovered best buy, etc.
Pretty soon, there was a hole burning in my pocket, whereupon a purchase had to be made without delay.
-
Bill - one thing I do consider re the Bersa - while it is I think superb value I tend to treat it as a carry gun rather than massive thruput for plinking. Bit like the pup in some ways - carry a lot etc.
It will take lots of use happily but so as not to prejudice it for carry I keep shooting to specific practice drills for wife and our friend - thus maybe a session is only 6 to 8 mag's each (approx 50 rounds), well for now.

That's just a wonderful picture! You are a very talented, well rounded man, and I am full of envy.
I still remember the excellent sequence where you revealed how the European magazine catch is manipulated.
Well, I think the only Bersa flaw could be that an accidental magazine disconnect renders the gun safe.
On a couple of occasions, I must have held it poorly, and the magazine came out every so slightly. It would not fire.
Since we think in terms of emergency use for self protection, I think a pistol should always fire, even if the magazine is removed.
Bill

The mag disconnect is easily removed Bill - but not recommended, at least in as much as it ''alters'' the gun legallty speaking.
I do not like disconnects but have put great emphasis with ''my girls'' on very positive mag insertion. In fact when loading up - if mag smacked in hard from slide lock it very nicely (as with Glocks) lets slide-lock lever release and slide slam heartily fwd.!
So try and accept that feature and go for practice to achieve a good ''click'' as it enters - plus visual confirmation.
Thx for your kind comments. That reminds me to check if those pics I did of heel mag release are on FAQ site - darned if I remember.
-
Beautiful photo, Chris, as usual! Thanks.
-
Good idea about the magazine insertion. I was giving it a light push.
Next time, it will be a hearty slap.
Bill

Davbe, I hope your wife is doing OK?!

Great pictures Fudster. What camera did you use?
-
Great comparisons...
I have a couple of "small" pocket guns that I should take pics with the pups..
But my picture taking is not in the same league!! ;)

A Canon "Rebel T2"

Wheres all the Pocket Nines? Great pics, I too sold my PPK/S after the R9S'es. :D
Pocket Nine as in Colt Pocket Nine? Here's the Rohrbaugh R9S next to a Colt Pocket Nine ...

... Sorry about the blurriness but for some reason, I just couldn't get a clear shot. I guess my lighting must have been off. And here are some Colt Pocket Nines by themselves ...

Alan - more nice pics :)
You may have missed my earlier post - but let me ask again - do you mind if I use these to add to the FAQ site collection of comparison pics - they are nice material.
-
Saw that. Thought that I responded but apparently I didn't. Been trying to shake the flu for the past couple of weeks and the worse part was the high fevers that would hit me.
Anyway, to answer your question, feel free to use anything that I post.
-
Thx Alan - always like to ask!
Nasty dose of flu by sound of it - hate that high fever deal. Hope you are soon rid.
-
What I'd like to see is a Kel-Tec P-3AT / R9 comparison picture....... :-/
-
Bubbaman, welcome to the forum. I hope you return often to enjoy the good friends here.
There are some comparison pictures, but I can't remember exactly where they are here.
A Search using p3at should show some.
I do know the R9S is not much bigger.
Bill

Here is a picture that shows the size pretty well.

Bubbaman:
Welcome to the "campfire."
-
Bubbaman - welcome from me too :)
Go to my FAQ site (see my sig line) and if you go to FAQ index page you'll find a link to all sorts of comparison pics. I have yet to add the ones here that fudster posted.

What needs to be done in order to add FFF (http://www.familyfriendsfirearms.com/) as an 'associated forum' on your website.
-
Done!
-
Thanks.
-
Uh, I don't see it. I only see "The High Road", "The Firing Line" & "The Rohrbaugh Forum"
-
Fudster:
Click on the "Links" tab (fifth tab from the left at the top of the Forum's home page) and scroll down to the "Other Firearms Forums" section. The link to FFF is there just above the link to Concealed Carry Magazine.
-
Okay. Now I see it. Thanks.
-
Alan - question!! Your fourth pic (f136-0.jpg) - of R9 with Smith semi - I cannot decide which model that is in the 4000 series. I can see 40 on the frame but last two digits are tricky - third digit looks like a ''4'' but last one has me stumped!
Could you please let me know which that is - so I can put those pics up on FAQ - been meaning to do it. Oh and the snub - I am looking at that thinking Airweight but - I think that's a Scandium is it?
-
The auto is a S&W 4040PD (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=12760&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15712&isFirearm=Y) -- the world's first Scandium pistol. It originally had a blacken finish but was showing signs of rust after less than a year of being carried. So, I had it re-finished and rust-proofed (which explains the greenish finish) and now there's no problem.
As for the revolver, it's a S&W 342 ... a .38special-only version of the 340 (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=14764&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15704&isFirearm=Y). Hope that helps.
-
Thx Alan - I did actually find I already had the snub pic on the FAQ site but for sure I was puzzled re the 4040.
Thx for the info :)
