I have been looking for the "perfect" carry pistol for long time. I shoot a Glock 19 (minor class) in IPSC so I don't like anything with a lot of levers or artwork (who said Berretta) I like DA only and no manual safety’s. I currently have an AMT .380 which weighs a hefty 22 oz with 5 rounds in it. My biggest complaint about the AMT is the weight. If I run out of rounds I sure could give someone a good smack with it. LOL
Questions: How wide is the R9 at the grips, or widest point?
How many rounds can R9 hold?
What is the difference between the R9 & R9S?
Can anyone compare the R9 to the .380 AMT, pictures, experience, etc?
How much does it weigh loaded?
The R9 looks like a nice carry pistol. I have read through the forum a little and it seems as though most of you are happy with the pistol. Also personally, this issue over it's cost is irrelevant to me, not that I am rich, but if you carry a pistol to defend your life, I think that’s worth at least double it's "perceived" value.
Thanks,
Love NH carry laws. I apologize our state went blue, but a lot of hypocrites from MA have flooded into this state over the last few years, better tax laws. My county was red. Don't get me wrong I have plenty of cool friends from MA, but they don't move in and try and make NH like MA. When your house is a mess, you don't move, you clean up!

NH Carry:
I hear you regarding NH. I live in NJ and I have good news for you. It's one thing to have blue state people moving in but how would you like to live in a state where the politicians commit crimes, they don't go to jail but if you carry a concealed gun, you do!
If anyone is ever crazy enough to ask, I will give you the full scoop on what you have to go through to be a gun owner in NJ.
It's sad but I love to hate my native state so much that I bad mouth it every chance I get. Be happy in New Hampshire.

Welcome to the Forum.
I don't have the total width figure available right now, but I know someone will chime in with it...
The R-9 holds 6 rounds in the mag, plus one in the chamber. The R-9 has no sights (smooth slide top) and the R-9s has small but very useable traditional sights.
Loaded, the gun weighs 17 oz. when fully loaded.
You can see my detailed review here: http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/YaBB.cgi?board=R9S;action=display;num=1100117950
Also, I assume you have browsed the FAQ here.
The AMT was an interesting concept. My recollection of the Backup .380 was it it was a brick with a horrible trigger and difficult to use lever safety. The R-9 is a Rolls Royce by comparision.
Hope this helps!

Thanks guys,
I unfortunately know all about NJ. Born and raised in Bergen County. The first time (18 years old) I went to buy a pistol the local police captain arbitrarily made up a law about the legal age to buy a hand gun. Told me I had to wait until I was 25. After a hundred phone calls and treat of litigation I had my permit. I love and hate NJ at the same time.
Regarding my AMT .380 it does not have any manual safeties or any other levers for the exception of the magazine release with appears to be very similar to the R9. If my AMT was all titanium (except areas were galling would be an issue) and 9m, I would probably be very happy with it.
Anyone know the approximate weight ratio between stainless and titanium?
Thanks

I guess I didn't realize there was a DAO model too. AMT Backups also came in a single-action type with a grip safety and some type of manual safety.
The biggest problem with the gun right now is that there is not AMT left to fix it if it goes down.

NH:
There is no such thing as weight ratio of aluminum to titanium. What I believe you mean is density ratio.
Aluminum is 60% of the density of titanium. Because of the higher density of titanium you need less of it than you would aluminum for a same or similar application.
Hope this helps.

NH,
Oops; I gave you the comparison of titanium and aluminum instead of titanium and SS.
If you had a square inch cube of SS and a spare inch cube of titanium, the SS would outweigh the titanium by a factor of a little over two(2) to one(1).

Thanks again guys,
Yes, AMT is done for, hence the search for a better pistol.
Of course there is a weight ratio, and a strength ratio, and a density ratio, a weld ability ratio, a cost per lbs ratio, and cold and hot forming ratio, a machine ability ratio. Ratio is the number, quantity, and degree in which things can be compared.
The reason I asked is because, I would be happy to pay 50 – 75 % more for a great pistol that was offered in a titanium option.
I just looked it up, 1 cubic inch of Aluminum “high strength” i.e. 6000 or 7000 series is about .101 lbs vs. Titanium @ .164.
So size for size the Titanium is heaver. However density has nothing to do with strength, on its own. Lead is very dense about 11 grams per cubic centimeter vs. stainless at about 8 on the same scale. Gold is a 20, which would make a poor gun frame but a great conductor.
So I guess making a gun frame out of titanium is really no advantage unless its increased strength allows you to reduce the size of the frame. But this has already been achieved with good aluminum alloys and composites. I was expecting the titanium to be about 75% the weight by volume as aluminum, but that guess was wrong. Turns out it would just be a waste of money, unless of coarse you change the frame design and took advantage of the additional strength.
Tech info curtsey McGraw Hill Inc.
That was fun, and interesting.
Science is Cool!

NH - welcome. :)
If you go to the FAQ site of mine - see link in my sig .... might answer some questions for you. For some as yet unexplained reason I have button probs - one is missing on most pages and Intro page maybe more - yet to find out why server doesn't like em ... and yet run from hdd here they all show.
Anyways - hope the info there might help fill some gaps for you.

After checking mine (Blue/Black carbon fiber grips) the widest measurement was at the grip bottom. I read 0.924 inches,
