Title: How to carry spare mag in Hedley case?
Post by: Chinook on June 11, 2009, 12:32:24 AM
OK, here's the lamest of questions.  I have several holsters for my R9 but the one I use most is my Hedley pocket holster.  With that, I ordered the sweetest mag holder ever... but it has no belt loop.  But how could it, it's sooo small and compact.

Here's my question: where do I carry my spare mag?

Constraints:

My left pocket has my keys and my knife.  It's pretty full.  Plus, I can't put the great little mag case in the same pocket with my knife and keys.  It would be scarred up within days.

My right front pocket has the holstered pup.

I don't like lumpy things in my back pockets for obvious reasons.

Shirt pockets are often not available and would need to have buttons or some other form of closure for safety.

Clearly, I could buy a little belt case for the mag but would I then abandon the lovely Hedley case?  Surely you don't put a case within a case?

Mr Hedley... what do I do???

Kind regards from the heart of East Texas,
James

I carry a spare mag in the little watch pocket of my jeans, at the top of the right front pocket.

Sorry Chinook, don't carry an extra mag but if I did it would be on my belt.  Can Mr. Hedley cut a loop hole in it?

Chinook,
I carry my Hedley mag case in my right hip (back) pocket. I make sure to carry it with the mag base down, the mag vertical, and tucked into the hollow part of my buttock. ( Okay, I finally dropped some weight and I'm braggin' that I have a hollow again!!)
Seriously, that works pretty well for me, but the corner of the mag base plate does wear a little hole thru my trousers.
My wife finally started putting an iron-on patch inside the pants before I wear a hole thru 'em.

BTW: My Hedley mag pouch has been used daily for the past three years and still looks almost like new.  Every morning when I load my pockets, I look at that pouch and think, "Man, Hedley does nice work!"

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to address this issue!  My watch pocket is too small and I'm very choosy about what gets to caress my backside...  I was actually hoping Mr Hedley would respond but I guess I'll just have to send him an email.

Regarding a belt slot, this case fits the mag like OJ's famous glove fit his hand.  A belt would have to have a thickness measured in microns for it to work.  You (Mr Hedley?) could put a belt loop on the outside of the case but I don't know of anyone he's done this for.  It wasn't offered to me as an option.  Besides, the case is so beautifully done that I can't imagine defacing it...

We need another solution...

I don't know if Hedley's website is current,  but I looked at it two days ago and it says the site is "closed to new orders: JR is very ill."   That might be why you aren't getting a reply.

Thanks for the update.  I did not know.  We should all keep Robert in our prayers.

Yes, we need to keep RJ in our thoughts and prayers. Five years ago, when my wife fell gravely ill and was given three months to live, RJ and his wife made sure that she was put on every prayer list they could. My wife made a full recovery -- which certainly made a believer out of me in both the power of prayer and the possibility of miracles.

These days, each morning when I place my R9 and its Hedley holster in my right front pocket and a spare magazine in its Hedley case in my left rear pocket, I say a silent prayer that this good and dear friend will be granted a full and speedy recovery.

Richard,  that's a wonderful story.   I have a list of words to say for certain people,  because I'd forget otherwise.  HaHa!
I'll start saying a few words for RJ,  even though I don't know him and am new to the boards.  But from what I've gathered,  he is a much valued soul to everyone.  Nice holsters too.

Get better RJ.   Nip that illness in the butt!

I greatly appreciate this  story and will be praying for those I don't know but He does, God grant them His mercy.

RJ is just one of the best, both as a sensitive, caring person and
as a superb craftsman. Thanks for relating that, Richard, and we
should all wish him a speedy recovery and keep him in our prayers.
