Bought another vehicle needed another gun to keep in it. Wife bought me the new Ruger LC9 for my birthday, saftey? mag interlock? pop up thingy that says loaded on it?
Traded for a Kahr PM40 two days later. Neat gun, anyone have any thing good or bad on it?
Put 157 rounds through it and no failures of any type. Still carry the R9S on my belt but this is a nice truck gun.
Hope everyone has been well and safe this hot summer.

Kahr makes good pistols. But I won't buy one because the owner, Justin Moon, is the son of the founder of the Unification (Moonie) church. Same line of thinking as why I won't buy Chevron gasoline - I refuse to put a penny in Hugo Chavez's pocket.
That aside, I own a Ruger LC9 and occasionally carry it instead of my R9s. The safety I just leave off. The magazine interlock I live with. The loaded chamber pop-up thingie has saved me from a negligent discharge. That would have been, at the least, embarrassing!
For a dedicated truck gun, why not buy a Taurus Judge or the new 6-round S&W Governor? I own the granddaddy of those two guns - a Thunder Five. It's my bedroom gun. When I complained about the 5 round capacity, my nephew said, "If 5 rounds of .410 OOO buck doesn't stop what's after you, throw the damn gun at it and run for your life - it ain't human!"

This is my problem with the Judge concept. I think people overestimate the stopping power of .410 gauge anything...
Its hard to chrono 000 buck with my equipment, but as best I can tell, it goes about 700-800 fps from a short-barrelled Judge. The shot is about .36 caliber, I think -- but with less mass than a .38 round-nose bullet.
So, four 000 buck pellets at that muzzle velocity -- I am not sure its the definitive answer to our defensive needs. I am pretty sure I would rather have a .357 Magnum JHP.

Welcome back!
Change of subject -- Are you extending your knife making avocation into folders?

I have had my PM40 for a couple of years and like it a lot, zero problems. I had a PM9 and a P380 and sold them, not because of any issues or dislikes, both were great guns just found greater things I wanted. ;D

I have the Judge for 3 inch .410's with a 3 inch barrel and was bought for the purpose of carrying in the woods in Ga. to use for snakes; have yet to see a poisonous snake, although I know they're there.
As for a defensive gun, the .357 Mag will get my vote as well.

Dino. Didn't mean to sidestep your post. Congrats on your PM40. I don't own one, but sounds like quite a shooter. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome back. Kahr is made 30 miles from the town I was born in, they employ a large number of people there so that kind of out weighs the "moonie" connection for me. But I understand.
No folders yet Richard, trying to forge some the old fashion way first. Can't wait for cooler weather it is hot by that fire!
Went to school for flint knapping, wanted to find out how they made knives and tools from rock! Hard but rewarding work.

Flint knapping school must be for enthusiasts only. That is back to the basics but it would probably hone your innate skills and considerable natural talent also.

I remember meeting Justin Moon at the launch of the Kahr at the SHOT Show back in the early 90's and was not sure if was connected to that family at the time. He was pure business and a very engineering type guy. Did not seem like a cultist or religious type at all.
I came away very impressed with the pistol.
Of course what difference does it make now that Auto Ordinance owns them ?

Dino,
I had a MK40 and sold it to buy the PM40 to save weight. I have put about 250 rounds through the PM40. When I shot it this spring I put 120 rounds through in on range session. I got a blister on my trigger finger. It seems that my finger was getting pinched between the trigger and the frame.
I have sold this pistol. I wish I kept the MK40. The added weight made the gun shoot (me shoot) much better.
I am now holding off for an R45!

Robar223 I also had a MK40 and wish I had it back. I had no problem with finger pinching but also do not intend to shoot this 40 acp pocket pistol much.
Richard I was lucky enough to have a world renowned flint knapper right in my back yard, Dr. Errett Callahan, I had instructions one on one with him. Very neat guy! Also neat turning a hunk of rock into a working knife, arrow head and ax head. We did not use any modern tools, just other rocks and antlers, and a lot of hard work!

Even better! And we have Justin Wilson's cookbooks on hand. "I gar-on-tee!" 8)

Dino- that is so awesome! To have such teachings.
And I can not imagine doing that without modern tools.
Please post pics if possible.

Thanks Reinz, yeah good with my hands but I need my 22 year old son to post pics. When he comes home I'll have him post some for you.
Warning, mine are nothing like the ones you can view on Errett Callahan's website!
-
Same here, I can do stuff in the shop, but can't post pics either. Tried once and it did not take.
-
Dino. Looking forward to those flint knapping pictures! :)

I have one word for that knife -- "Spectacular!"
-
Wow, that truly is amazing Dino.
Thank you so much for sharing!
-
Fantastic work, Dino. Thanks for those pictures.

Thank you men, I cheated on the knife a little, cut the grove and hole in the antler for the blade with a saw and drill instead of rock tools, and used epoxy instead of finding black tar sap to glue them together. :-/
I did have the ax head mounted for awhile and it cut as good as the knife, untill I broke the handle.
