Title: email from Top Gun, P7 back in stock
Post by: birdman on November 02, 2010, 06:15:31 PM
As the title says; Top Gun has the W German police P7s in stock again. "B" grade, one mag, little holster wear and internals very good. $499.95  This after they told me  they wouldn't get any more. Excellent price, but I don't know how long they'll have them.    Gene

What a deal for a high quality piece. You couldn't even buy the parts for it for a multiple of the price if you could find them.

That does seem like a good price.

I received the same e-mail, the $499 does seem reasonable.

I'm quite certain they are "heelers."

I fiquered for that price they must be.

Had they never made the frame mount latches, we'd be all over this!  ;D

I wish now that I had waited til these became available again. But Top Gun said that they didn't expect to get any more of them, and then even dropped the ad for the gun off their website. I was afraid the supply was going to dry up. As you know H&K isn't making anymore of them. I paid $799 for a grade "A" with two mags from Bachman Pawn. The problem with that is you don't need any thing better than a grade "B" if you are going to refinish the gun anyway. I'm thinking seriously about buying one of these B grades from Top Gun just to keep til I decide what I want to do with it. I'm kinda leaning towards having it hard chromed like Richard's. I really like the way it looks. What I'll probably do is diddle around and when I do decide to get one they'll be gone again. I'll sleep on it tonight, and decide tomorrow.    Gene

Decided that I wasn't sleepy so I just went ahead and bought the gun instead. Should be here early next week. So everyone get their thinking caps on. As always, all ideas are welcome and appreciated. While I'm thinking of it I'd better get busy and order the Nill grips before they go into a backorder mode. This is fun, and it'll keep me out of trouble. :D Stay tuned!     Gene

Got the Nill grips ordered, now comes the fun part, waiting. They say it builds character. Well screw that! I've already got character, what I want is my gun. The scary part is both the gun and the grips will be shipped via the US Postal service. I'll just hold my breath 'til they get here.      Gene

I still wonder what happened to the nine takedown tools the USPS lost in shipping.

Well the USPS didn't hose me this time. The B grade P7 showed up at my FFL dealer today. It looks good!, not quite as nice as the A grade that I got from from Bachman Pawn but awfully close. I certainly wouldn't be ashamed to carry it. The grips are supposed to be in the mail monday. If they show up as well then I'll start trying to decide what I want to do with it. So keep those ideas coming, I need all the help I can get. Thanks to everyone.     Gene

The only problem with the mirror finish is it will show scratches more than a non mirrored finish. (it also cost more to have done)

Don't even think about that! (I don't want to meet a lot of new "friends" carrying badges and asking to see my Form 4 paperwork.)

The upgrade does include polishing of internals with diamond abrasives and other such refinements.

A few months ago Richard posted a link to PCT in which one of the members (Ratman?, Rodentman?) was showing a P7 like mine that had been done by Robar. When I saw those pictures, I knew that was what I wanted for my gun! The gun shipped this afternoon to Robar to be finished with NP3 Plus. On a sour note, I ordered the Nill grips the same day that I ordered the gun, and after first saying the grips would show in 3-6 days I got yet another email saying that the grips were backordered, and should be here by the end of November! It really doesn't make any difference since the grips will show before the gun does anyway, I just don't like getting jerked around like this. At any rate, it looks like another long waiting period, which I shall endure with my usual grace and serenity. I'll keep you posted if anything changes.   Gene

I neglected to mention that the lady that I spoke with at Robar told me it would take 4-8 weeks to do the gun. But, she said that it "usually took less time than that" I couldn't pin her down any more than that.     Gene

I was looking thru Robar's web site a while ago and noticed something I hadn't seen before. They say that when you have the gun finished in NP3 or NP3plus that you should should lube the gun as usual for the first 2 or 3 hundred rds. Kind of a "break-in period". After that you only need to lube a couple places. I really don't understand how you can break something in if it isn't wearing. Oh well, I'll mention it to them next time I talk to them. Back to waiting, more later.    Gene

Gene,
I have maintained my normal lube procedure (sparingly) and have passed the 200rd. mark since having the pup Robared. The thing I like is the ease of cleaning. most everything just wipes off with a dry cloth.

Same here, very light lube for my two: P7 and 1911.  Had them done at the same time and it took just at 8 weeks.

Update on the P7.... got an email from MacTec and a snail mail from Robar today. MacTec said the Nill grips had shipped and would be here in 3-5 days. The mail from Robar was an order confirmation form. It confirmed that my gun was in their possession and "the work is scheduled for processing". Their estimated time of completion Dec.23, but they stressed that that was only an estimate. I hope to have it home for Christmas. ;D They also gave me a list of work to be done and an estimated price. I kinda like the way they do business.     Gene

Well, the Nill grips showed up in the mail yesterday, and once again the USPS did it's best to hose me. This time they didn't succeed. The box for the priority mail (which you buy at the post office) was crushed almost flat. It looked as tho it had been either stepped on or run over by something heavy. Fortunately MacTec had wrapped the grips pretty well in heavy wrapping paper and they survived. I guess this just proves that no matter how incompetant you are if you have a government monoply any organization can survive. Oh well, rant over, the grips are safe. Now I can go back to waiting on the gun. Happy holidays everyone.        Gene

Good news! First of all, my computer is back after being in the computer garage for three days. Second, the P7 is back from Robar. On monday the 7th I got a call from Debi at Robar. She told me that my gun was finished and shipped and would be home the next day. Sure enough, it showed up on the noon stage, and it looks GOOD!!. Robar received my gun on 10 Nov and I got it back on 7 Dec. I was amazed that it got back so quickly. I'll post some pictures of both the Bearcoat and Robar guns soon. I finally broke down and bought a digital camera. I have a friend who's trying to drag me kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I don't think she realizes what a job she took on. I've gotten to the point where I can take pictures, download them into the computer and send them to my email. I haven't tried to post anything yet. That's next. I guess I'm about up to date for now. So wishing you all a happy Holiday.    Gene

Gene:

Don't worry, I ain't runnin' that fast any more on keeping up with the digital stuff. It's getting so bad that last week my daughter handed me her cast-off Fujifilm S5700 digital camera with 10x optical f = 6.3-63mm lens with a comment implying that I needed to take more pictures of the family than I was doing with my Nikon P80 compact. (And here I had finally just about memorized the Nikon's user manual.) Meanwhile, my daughter has gone on to one of the new "whiz-bang" Canon digitals with assorted lenses, filters, tripod stand, etc. -- all in a case about as large as my range bag. Then she flips out her 64 gig iPad and does something which accesses her home computer -- just to show off, I'm thinking.

I'm looking forward to your P7 photos.

A few months back I wrote about the problems I was having finding grip screws for the P7. I left requests at several sites to notify me when they were back in stock. Today I had an email from HK parts saying they had a very limited supply available. At nine dollars PER SCREW!!! I was astounded that anyone would have the guts to ask that kind of price. And speaking of which, I still have a lot ot screws left if anyone wants them send me a PM. Have a very Merry Christmas everyone.         Gene
